Changing Order

This task explains how to change the order of curves, surfaces and faces.
While the command is active, the user can increase, decrease, or change order options at will to see the effects of the changes. The command remembers the original condition of the input element, to allow to return to it if desired without the need to exit the command.
Open the Order.CATPart document.
  1. Click the Order icon .
    The Order dialog box opens.

You can define the following options:
  • Elements: Selection of the elements the order of which shall be changed.
Valid inputs are Surfaces, Faces, and Curves.
  • Local Order: Default option for a single element. Only available if a single element is selected. If active, all other order options are disabled.
Modifies the U and V order values of a surface OR a curve.
When the order of an element is reduced, the end/edge conditions should be maintained as close to the original as possible.

  • Global Order: Only available, if multiple elements are selected and the options 'Max. Order' and 'Min. Order' are inactive.
Allows to globally modify the order of multiple surfaces OR curves to the U & V values defined in one operation.

  • Min. Order: Only available, if multiple elements are selected and the options 'Global Order' and 'Max. Order' are inactive.
Allows to globally specify the minimum order of multiple surfaces OR curves to the U & V values defined in one operation.
Only the order of selected elements with a lower order than specified will be increased.
Elements with higher order than specified remain unchanged.

  • Max. Order: Only available, if multiple elements are selected and the options 'Global Order' and 'Min. Order' are inactive.
Allows to globally specify the maximum order of multiple surfaces OR curves to the U & V values defined in one operation.
Only the order of selected elements with a higher order than specified will be decreased.
Elements with lower order than specified remain unchanged.

  • Linking U and V: By selecting this button, the U and V values are linked. The V field is grayed out, the values can only be entered into the U field.

  • Analyze: Analyzes all selected elements and reports the Minimum & Maximum values for both U & V in the corresponding fields.

  • Symbols: Displays symbols specifying the U and V order values.
Click onto the 'More Info' button to display deviations.

  • Display: The graphical display of the deviation values can be globally switched on and off.
  • Deviation - Max.: Displays the maximum deviation of all the results after the change in order has been applied.
In the graphics area are displayed the individual deviation values at any position where deviations occur.
