Plane Tool

Edit

The Edit dialog box is available in all ICEM Shape Design functions which use a 3D Plane Tool.

By double-clicking on the axis names (X, Y or Z) of a Plane Tool, a dialog box appears to make Plane Tool adjustments:
  • Position: Edit Origin Position
    • X, Y, Z: Specify origin position of the Plane Tool in model coordinates
  • Rotate: Rotate around local axis
    • Value: Specify an angle for rotation with the buttons 'X+', X-', 'Y+', 'Y-', 'Z+', 'Z-'
This value is stored globally in the ICEM Shape Design Settings
    • X+: Rotate Plane Tool around local x axis by the specified angle positive (Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+Leftmouse on 'x')
    • X-: Rotate Plane Tool around local x axis by the specified angle negative
    • Y+: Rotate Plane Tool around local y axis by the specified angle positive (Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+Leftmouse on 'y')
    • Y-: Rotate Plane Tool around local y axis by the specified angle negative
    • Z+: Rotate Plane Tool around local z axis by the specified angle positive (Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+Leftmouse on 'z')
    • Z-: Rotate Plane Tool around local z axis by the specified angle negative
    • Field: Name of the created plane; it appears in the list. The plane is visible after a new command is selected or the scene is saved and left
    • Create: Creates a plane defined by the Plane Tool. The name of this plane is user defined
    • Update View: View is oriented to the Plane Tool
  • Adjust: Adjust Plane Tool to standard planes
    • X: Adjust Plane Tool Normal to model x axis (Shortcut: Ctrl+Leftmouse on 'x')
    • View, Compass: Orients Plane Tool to the View (Compass)
    • Y: Adjust Plane Tool Normal to model y axis (Shortcut: Ctrl+Leftmouse on 'y')
    • Z: Adjust Plane Tool Normal to model z axis (Shortcut: Ctrl+Leftmouse on 'z')
    • Combo Box: Lists the names of available planes. Plane Tool adjusts to the chosen plane
    • Update: Orient the Plane Tool on the chooen plane. Choose it in the list.
Give the Plane Tool a new position and orientation.
Update orients the plane on the new position of the Plane Tool.
The plane is visible in this position after a new command is selected or the Scene is saved and left
    • Synchronized: Synchronizes the Plane Tool with the View (Compass). Plane Tool changes, if View (Compass) changes
    • Combo Box: If Synchronized is ON, the Plane Tool is always synchronized with the View (Compass)

Properties

The Properties dialog box is available in most ICEM Shape Design commands through the contextual menu of the UI-Tools of the command.

As not all tool property options are useful in each command, this dialog box may vary between different functions in the number of options.

  • Snap: Activates snap mode to snap tool position (and optionally orientation) on geometry.
    • OFF: Snap mode is deactivated.
    • Vertex: The tool snaps on a vertex. If Direction is switched on, the tool is oriented normal to the underlying surface, tangent to an underlying curve and to the compass normal for all independent 3D points.
    • Curve: The tool snaps on a curve or surface edge. If Direction is activated, the z-Axis of the Plane Tool equals the tangent of the curve.
    • Surface: The tool snaps on a surface. If Direction is switched on, the tool is oriented to the surface normal
    • .
  • Rotate: Defines rotation mode of the UI-Tool (available for plane and vector tool).
    • Dynamic: Normal dynamic rotation mode.
    • Discrete: Rotation of the tool snaps to certain relative grid angles. The grid value defines the angle increments relative to the start angle of the rotation.
    • Grid: Rotation of the tool snaps to certain absolute grid angles. The grid value defines the angle increments relative to the reference direction (Grid mode works only on vector tools, on plane tools it is the same as the discrete mode).
    • Static: Click on the corresponding rotation handle of the tool. The rotation is activated with the release of the mouse button. The grid value defines the specific rotation angle.
  • Feedback: Activates numerical feedback of tool translation or rotation options for translation of UI-Tools.
    • Distance 3D: Feedback is the distance between the start position of the translation and the current position.
    • Distance XYZ: Feedback is the distance shown in x, y and z components of the current coordinate system.
    • Coordinates: Feedback is the absolute position of the tool in the model coordinate system.
